This estate owner, located in Northamptonshire, was looking for a solution to replace their existing metal automated gates due to the age and reliability, so they contacted AGD Systems for our expertise and advice.
They initially made contact in early 2021, looking for help with a quote and various design options, and as ever, the team at AGD Systems were on hand to help.
In terms of their preferred design, the customer was looking for a specific style and appearance which suited their type of property and after extensive conversations and meetings a design was produced and agreed by all (Fig.1).
To reduce ongoing maintenance they also followed our advice to have the gates galvanised and a powder coated paint finish that is standard on all our steel gate installations.
The customer also chose a specific silver as the final colour to match other gates on the site.
With the opening already created between 2 large stone piers it was agreed the designed gate should slide when opening instead of swinging as the original gate did, to allow for more security.
Sliding gates are far more secure than swing gates generally, especially when comparing a force attempt and the resistance offered from both types. A sliding gate also only usually requires one motor drive, so less maintenance and costs in the long run.
The customer also stated they would like all the original control and junction boxes removed as some would become redundant and others could be moved to the new control box site.
As you can see from the picture below the customers original gate install was a little outdated and untidy having had multiple connection boxes added over time (Fig.2)
After removal of the original gates, ground boxes and controls, excavation began in order to create a suitable full length concrete pad for the installation of the sliding gate track as seen below (Fig.3)
After the installation of the ground track the gate was craned and lifted into place (Fig.4).
Automation, safety devices, a new timer controlled exit loop for activating the opening of gate when a vehicle approaches, along with a keypad for out of hours opening and the customer’s original access control system connected (Fig.5) was all installed.
Final setup and testing, including a calibrated force test, and then final handing over to the customer (Fig.6) for many, many years of trouble free and reliable operation.
The customer has now commissioned more gates on the same estate with this design.
